Conference On Pig Recording
On Tuesday evening a conference* was held between representatives of the New Zealand Pig Breeders’ Association (Messrs J. A. Russell, of Palmerston North, and R. C. Clark, of Auckland) and the Manawatu-Oroua Pig Developing and Recording Club (Messrs B. E. Keiller and W. J. Croucher, both of Palmerston North). Mr M. J. Scott, superintendent of pig industry, who, last week met representatives of tho Waikato Pig Recording and Research Association, and was delegated by them to place their views before the meeting, was also present.
The scheme for the national recording of pigs was carefully gone into and a number of amendments to the rules and technique of recording were dealt with. Mr Scott intimated that now rules would be drafted within the next few days and would then be released for publication. He also stated that he would do his utmost to assist the pig industry in every respect as he felt that much good could be done for farming if all interested in the Pig Breeding and Recording Association would give him their co-operation. A proposed national levy on all pigs killed for export and local consumption was discussed and it was resolved, in of the very favourable reception that had been accorded the proposal by the Farmers’ Union throughout the Dominion, to request the Government to pass the necessary legislation to empower the making of a levy at the earliest possible opportunity.
Members of the executive of tho Manawatu Pig Recording Club are showing Mr Scott results of their work in this district.
