Supplying Electricity

DEMANDS OF OUTLYING AREAS. ORDER OF ROADS DISCUSSED. "Some time ago a report was brought down on the reticulation of certain side roads in the district where the estimated revenue was not sufficient to warrant the capital cost and the Board decided to reduce the guarantee of revenue from 16 per cent, to 12 per cent, and proceed with supplying the roads in the order of the amount of revenue offer ing,” said the chairman, Mr. G. A. Monk, at the monthly meeting of the Horowhenua Electric Power Board.

Continuing, Mr. Monk said that firstly Kingston road had been given electricity and next in order, according to the amount of revenue estimated, was Albert road, then Kaihinau road, and finally ltahui road. Kaihinau road set tiers had again renewed their application and it appeared that they were anxious to have power. The estimated cost of the work there was £750 and the revenue at the time when all tho roads were being considered was Estimated to be £24 per annum.

Mr. A. Seifert advised that the stttlers on Kaihinau road had approached him several times recently and it appeared as if there would be a great deal more revenue there now than when the work was first considered.

The chairman was of the opinion that settlers on Kaihinau road had approachthere was any increase in the estimated revenue. Mr. Seifert had mentioned Kaihinau road many times, but the revenue required was £BO.

Mr. A. E. Hyde considered that if the settlers were prepared to guarantee a revenue of £BO the work should be proceeded with. The chairman pointed out that included in the cost was the strengthening of the existing lines on Kaihinau road as well as tho extension. Perhaps consideration should be given to that aspect, which would reduce the guarantee a little.

It was agreed to continue with the work on Albert road and make a further canvass of Kaihinau road with a view to ascertaining the present revenue for consideration at next meeting.
