Zoning in Bay of Plenty
COMMISSION OF AGRICULTURE INQUIRY. Per Press Association. WHAKATANE, Last Night. The work of the Commission of Agriculture was concluded yesterday. The zoning of the Bay of Plenty was completed, and adjustments arrived at. Included are arrangements for the Arawa Dairy Company to sell its assets and goodwill to other dairy companies. All agreements and adjustments of boundaries will come into operation on August 1, 1937. When the sitting was resumed yesterday morning the Commission discussed the position of the Arawa Company with the Rangitikei, Opouriao, and Opotiki Co-operative Companies. The possibility of an alternative system of zoning was fully canvassed, and it was agreed that under no sectional system of zoning could the Arawa Company be allotted a zone to enable it to hold approximately more than half- its present suppliers. After considerable discussion, the companies interested decided to authorise the Commission to negotiate on their behalf with the Arawa Company for the purchase of the assets and goodwill of that company. The Commission discussed the matter with the representatives of the Arawa Company and obtained from them an offer to sell the assets and goodwill of tho undertaking at a price computed at the rate of £8 a ton ou the butter manufactured during the twelvo months ending July 31, 1937. The offer was subsequently conveyed to tho Rangitikei, Opotiki, and Opouriao Companies. After further discussion amongst tho companies themselves, it was decided to accept the offer.
The Commission then met representatives of the three co-operative companies and finalised the boundary agreements.
