ANNUAL MEETING OF DANNEVIRKE CLUB.
The annual meeting of the Dannevirke Greyhound Racing Club was held on Tuesday night.
The balance-sheet was read by the secretary (Mr S. C. Drinkwater). It showed a credit of £6 4s 9d and was adopted on the motion of Mr Steele, seconded by Mr Pearson.
A letter was received frdm the New Zealand Coursing Association asking the club to become affiliated, and stating the advantages of such action. —Mr A. Monk considered that important matters were involved in the question and proposed that it be left to tho committee. On Mr Steele seconding the motion w T as carried. —The subject was re-introduced two hours later and further information was forthcoming, but no other decision was made.
The year’s officers wore elected as follows: —Patron, Mr E. J. Kiely; president, Mr G. W. Nicholson; vice-pro-sidents, Messrs E. Bethell, J. Grant, H* S. M. Quigley, G. T. O ’Hara-Smith, and W. Sharpley; secretary-treasurer, Mr S. C. Drinkwater; committee, Messrs McDowall, Clinch, Monk, Sullivan and Pearson, with president and secretarytreasurer ex-officio; co-trustee of tho Post Office Savings Bank account, Mr A. Monk.
Training fees entailed much discussion, the outcome being a decision that the fees remain at 3d per week with a recommendation that the committee go into the question of any alteration.
A recommendation was made to tshe committee that Mr Sullivan be appointed starter.
The president’s offer to donate a eop for any competition desired, was gratefully accepted. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the out-going officers. In reply on behalf of the old committee, Mr Steele thanked Messrs Monk and McDowali for their help. Votes of thanks wero also passed to the retiring chairman (Mr V. Anderson), for the use of his rooms, and to the new chairman.
The meeting lasted rather longor than expected—a matter of three hours —partly because of the great interest taken in the business and partly because of a disagreement on the question of whether the position of treasurer should be separate from the position of secretary. A previous meeting was referred to several times and on being examined the minute book disclosed that a motion had then been passed reading, ‘ ‘That the clubs funds be deposited in the post office, the secretary and Mr Monk to be trustees.”
After some explaining had been done a degree of harmony was restored, but a member who had threatened to walk out unless he got satisfaction, said that although he would let the matter drop he was far from satisfied.
Non-recognition of services rendered and the respective duties of the ‘‘rank and file” and the committee were other subjects that created some discord. However, the chairman at the conclusion considered that the club had become a much happier family and that the air had been cleared.
