Control of Cricket In the Manawatu

HAWKE’S BAT NEXT HAWKE CUP CHALLENGERS. Mr M. A. Ongloy (chairman) presided at the meeting of the Manawatu Cricket executive, held last evening. Others present were Messrs J. R. Hardie, E. D. Weir, W. H. Wilson, E. Tottman, G. Griggs, J. Gallichan, K. Olliver and R. A. Brace (secretary). An apology for absence was received from Mr K. G. Biss. Palmerston, Old Boys, Combined Services and United applied to have players registered, the requests being given effect to. Hutt Valley, thanking Manawatu for hospitality to their team on the occasion of the Cflc.stmas match, indicated that as a suitable ground was cot available, it would not be possible to arrange for the match. Hawke’s Bay Next Challengers for Hawke Cup. The Hawke’s Bay Cricket Association wrote asking Manawatu for an indication as to when their challenge match for tho Hawke Cup could be played. The latter explained that the inquiry was because of their representative programme, which was being drawn up. The chairman said the Town v. Country match was to be played on February 10 and 11 and, as far as he could judge, the Hawke’s Bay game would have to be played towards the end of February. It was resolved, subject to confirmation from the New Zealand Cricket Council, to offer Hawke’s Bay February 26 and 27 and March 1. {Southern Hawke’s Bay wrote inquiring if February 13 would be suitable to Manawatu for a Goldfinch and Cousins Cup match, and suggesting that the game could be played at VVoodviile. It was decided to offer {Southern Hawke’s Bay Saturday, February 27, at Palmerston North. Junior Cricket Week. Mr Weir advised that the junior cricket week would be held in Pillmer* ston North next season, and he asked that the Association's best thanks for hospitality to the Manawatu team, which played in Napier, be forwarded the Hawke’s Bay Cricket Association.
