Vines Overwhelms Perry
HARDWOOD COURT UPSETS ENGLISHMAN. United Press Association—By Electric TeJegrapii.—Copyright. Received Tuesday, 11,5 p.m. NEW YORK, Jan. 2G. At College Park, Maryland, Vines defeated Perry, 6—4, G—2, in a match shortened to two of three sets by the blazing service and terrific smashes of Vines who was apparently at the peak of his form and was much too good for Perry, who was handicapped by the use of a hardwood fioor instead of canvas, the hardwood helping tho bounce. Tho American's fast ball slowed Perry's coverago of the court. Vines took three of tho four first games to love, Perry winning the third game. Perry then won the fifth, sixth and seventh. Vines took the eighth on his own service and broke through Perry's service in the ninth, scoring three aces and winning tho tenth. Vines had everything his own way in * the second set and stood two games to love. Near tho end Perry just shook his head and made no effort to get some of Vines’ terrific shots.
