Anglo-American Trade Reciprocity
ENCOURAGING PROGRESS MADE. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Tuesday, 9.50 p.m. WASHINGTON, Jan. 25. Participants said an agreement in principle in regard to the desirability of negotiating a reciprocal trade agreement between the United States and the United Kingdom was reached as a result of week-end conversations between President Roosevelt and Mr Runciman. The process was so encouraging that Mr Runciman delayed his departure for England for one day in order to engage in a further talk. This may result in the announcement of the Governments' agreement that a basis exists for the nogotiation of a treaty.
Mr Runciman said the general objectives of the Governments’ were the same. Both epuntries want a greater degree of AngloAmerican commerce.
The United States Secretary of State, Mr Cordell Hull, was exceedingly optimist and said the complicated situation had been clarified more speedily than was expected.
Mr Runcimm now intends to leave by the Aquitania from New York on Thursday.
