Improvement in British Shipping

BIG REDUCTION IN IDLE TONNAGE. (British Official Wireless). Received Tuesday, 9.50 p.m. RUGBY, Jan. 25. The Chamber of {Shippings’ quarterly return of the number and tonnage of ships laid up at Uuited Kingdom ports on January 1 shows a further marked improvement in British shipping. {Ships to the number of 112 and of a tonnage of 192,177 were laid up on that date, compared with 181 of 423,205 tons iu January of last year. Compared with the return for October, 1936, the decrease in tonnage is equivalent to 47.3 per cent.
