Both Tone ana Jxongomai districts were well represented, winch showed tne young laay’s wide popularity. Mr J. Fulton conducted the programme with Miss BUge at

the piano. Several items were contributed by Master Tom Modgens and Mr O. Wilton. A visitor contributed several humorous recitations, which proved popular. During an interval Mr D. Wilton spoke a lew words on behalf of those present and asked Miss Shanahan to accept a number oi pleasing gifts. These were unwrapped and exhibited, making a big display. Mr K. Judd responded thanking those present for the evening and the gifts. Following musical honours, dancing was continued until a late hour. Personal and General. Mr and Mrs J. Matheson and family left on Saturday for Raglan where they are taking up residence. j Mr and Mrs J. Perry and family have left for a vacation at the beach. Mr T. Lowis returned on Saturday after spending a motor tour in the North. Mr C. Richards spent the week-end in Palmerston North.■Mushrooms have made their first ap-

pearance, showing signs of a short sum* Heavy winds and rains have been experienced during the last week, the wind rising to gale force at times. Last week Mr T. Evans had the misfortune to meet with rather a serious accident while returning from the factory in his cart.. His horso took fright and breaking the harness strap, left the shafts. Mr Evans was thrown forward on t o the ground, where be was found by Mr Fulton suffering severe facial injuries, these later proving to be a broken jaw and sose, and severe bruises. Mr Evans is now improving, though still suffering from shock.
