Family Gathering to Mark a Silver Wedding
On Sunday, January 24, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Billens celebrated the 25th anniversary of their wedding day at their residence in College street. A surprise party was arranged for the lato afternoon by relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Billens. They left in the afternoon for a motor drive and returned to find their friends assembled and an attractive supper prepared. After supper Mr. Lewis Bassett, of Wanganui, who had been best man at the wedding, proposed a toast to Mr. and Mrs. Billens wishing them every happiness in the future and offering them congratulations on behalf of those present and presenting them with a silver entree dish and casserole. Mr. Billens replied to the toast. Mr. W. Basset t-Smith then proposed a toast to Mrs. W. G. Bassett, of Wanganui, mother of Mrs. Billens, and expressed regret at her absence which was due to her delicate health. The main feature of the supper was the cake to celebrate the occasion made by Mrs. S. Newsome, of Wanganui. Mrs. Billens was wearing a nigger brown marocain suit with a white embroidered blouse and she was presented witha corsage in autumn colourings. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Bassett, Mr. and Mrs. W. Bassett-Smith and Miss Bassett-Smith, Mr. and Mrs. 8. Newsome, Misses Marjorie and Myra Hainsworth and E. Sharpe (all of Wanganui), also Misses D. Shannon (Waituna), S. Fannin, R. and M. Billens and Messrs W. Hastings (Wanganui), W. and G. McCorkindale (Feilding).
