Visiting Pipers Enjoy Wind-up Dance
JOLLY FUNCTION AT EMPIRE hall. Providing a fitting wind-up to .Saturday's pipe-band contest, a most successful dance was held in the Empire hall in the evening, at which all the visiting bandsmen were the guests of the Manawatu Scottish Society. There was a very large attendance of the public to share in proceedings, the scene on the floor being most picturesque and colourful with the variety of gay tartans combining with the pretty frocks of the womenfolk. Mr J. S. Jenkinson, president o the Manawatu Society, wits a genial host and was assisted in the general arrangements by Miss V. Kelly, Mesdames Swan and Coates. Lively music was provided by Hammond’s orchestra for old-time dancing, Mr F. Duckworth proving an able M.C., and a feature of the evening was the dancing of the ‘‘Eightsomo" reel by visiting pipes and members of the Manawatu Society. The usual generous supper was provided and proceedings were reluctantly terminated at midnight in customary fashion.
