Mrs Gambrill Continues On Her Winning Way
PROGRESS IN DOMINION CROQUET CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 22. A blustering hot nor'-wester to-day made conditions difficult for play in the New Zealand croquet championships. There were several surprise results duringthe day, notably the defeat of A. G. F. Ross in the open championship. Results are as follow: Open championship: Mrs. Corbett beat J. Tannock, 26 —11,223,6 —3,20 — 26; Mrs. Gambrill beat R. McCreath, 26—13,228;6 —8; Mrs. W. McLennan beat L. J. Ross, 16——2 b, 26—7, 26—16; H. Stratton beat G. Hart, 26 —17, 26—13; H. A. Penn beat A. G. F. Ross, 26 —20, 18—26, 26—20. Women’s championship (second life): Mrs. Palmer beat Miss E. Washer, 26 12; Mrs. Cole beat Mrs. G. Bartlett, 26—22; Mrs. Whibley beat Miss Bell, 26—11 j Mrs. A. E. Smith beat Mrs. Henderson, 26—15. Men’s championship (second life): H. Stratton beat R. McCreath, 26—24.
