Skins and Hides

Messrs Dalgety and Co., report:— “The usual fortnightly salo of sheepskins, hides, tallow, and sundries was held earlier, owing to Friday being Anniversary Day. All sections of the trade were represented, and it was evident when the sale opened that values would show a marked appreciation on our late quotations. Sheepskins: We submitted a fairly representative catalogue of all descriptions; competition being very strong, especially for sound pelted parcels. As compared with late rates, prices were fully 4d to Id dearer. Halfbreds sold to 18d, line crossbreds to 174 d, medium crossbreds to 16Ad, coarse crossbreds to 15|d. Half wools sold particularly well—a line we offered fetched 15£d. Wo catalogued over 300 salteds and these showed a corresponding rise with dry descriptions. A line of full wool crossbreds we sold at 11s each. Hides: There was a good demand for all weights and descriptions, exporters and tanners taking the bulk of the offering. Heavies, mediums, and light weights ox appreciated 1-Sd; cow id. Kip and yearlings sold well up to level of late rates. Calf were eagerly competed for, values for all weights appreciating 4d. Calf 6-Slbs. sold to 16 7-Sd, I- to 16 1-Sd. Tallow: Market buoyant, prices advancing 2s 6d per cwt; good mixed in shipping order selling to 31s Od per cwt. sheepskins: Half-bred to ISd; fine crossbred, 16£d to 171 d; medium crossbred, lid to 161 d; coarse crossbred, 124 d to 153 d; half wools, lljd to 153 d; quarter wools, 9£d to 124 d; pelts, 10id. Salted, at each: Pelts to 4s sd; quarter wools, to ss. 7d; full wools, to I.ls. Hides: Ox, 33-441bs, 7-18 d to 8 1-Sd; 40-52 lbs, 7Jd to 83d; 53-591bs, 83d to 93d; 60-691bs, 6sd to 9|d; 70-lbs and over, 7d to 9d. Cow, 33-391bs, Gid to SJd; 40-iSlbs, 7 1-Sd to Sid; 491bs and over, 7 l-8d to Sid; kip, 25-321bs, 54d to II- S 5-Sd to 12 7-Sd; calf, 9-101bs, 8 5-Sd to 12 7-Sd; 6-Slbs, 7d to 16 7-8 d; l-51bs, 12d to 16£d. Tallow: In casks, 22s to 31s 6d per cwt. In tins, ISs to 20s 6d per cwt. Sundries; Cow tails to 10Jd per dozen. Horso hair to 21'|d per lb.
