“Enlighten Thy Daughter”
NEW PROBLEM PLAY COMING TO THE MAYFAIR. A picture that dares to tell the truth is coming to the Mayfair Theatre on Wednesday next and is entitled “Enlighten Tby Daughter,” a new problem play. It is claimed to be a powerful picturisation of the dangers that lie ia wait for tho innocent, unwary young girl whose parents have neglected to impart to her vital facts of life, and what she should avoid in her social contacts. The story is daring and frank in its treatment, but withal carries a splendid moral lesson. So subtly presented it should make a wide appeal. It points to youth's reckless gaiety and its tragic aftermath, driving home the necessity for information to be put beautifully rather than that the young should receive a smattering of distorted notions. Here, inCeed, is presented a tensely dramatic analysis of one of the most important problems every parent must face; the necessity for parents to seek the companionship of their children. An eminent doctor has stated: ‘ 1 Some parents seem to cherish the illusion that their child, who is sheltered and kept in complete ignorance of sex, will suffer none of the ugly consequences of a misguided sex life. As a matter of fact the direct opposite is true. It is possible to give a girl or boy helpful and accurate knowledge, but it is impossible to keep them in complete ignorance.'' Greenwich Village, famous the world over as New York’s artists' colony, provides the setting for this picture which every parent —and young people, too —should see.
