Time, 1.28. (Winner trained by C. S. Pilcher, Feilding.) Miss Hushabye Shows the Way. The hurdles proved a good thing for Miss Hushabye, who was in front all the way. The leaders going through the straight the first time were Miss Hushabye, from Midacre, Kitty Quinn, Rioghail and Blue Tiger. Blue Tiger then made a forward move and by the time they turned into the back there were only four of them left in it. With half a mile still to go Miss Hushabye was a bit over a length ahead of Midacre and Count Willonyx and Blue Tiger, under pressure, was a couple of lengths further back. The leaders were unchanged into the straight where Miss Hushabye was being challenged. At the last fence Blue Tiger went down on his knees and Jenkins went up on Blue Tiger’s face, where he stayed with a head scissors on the favourite, who was blinded. They went on together and both tipped over the fence alongside the straight. The finish was a good one and Miss Hushabye hung on to beat Midacre by a neck. Count Willonyx was three lengths away and Monarchy was fourth. Royal Secret Pinishes Brilliantly. There were no scratchings in the open sprint for which Notium and Lavina were in strongest demand. After a false start the field went away in line and Lavina was the early leader from Body line, Land Tax and Porotiti. The leaders, with Lavina and Land Tax altering in front, were the same to the straight where Royal Secret was last but one, but as soon as heads were turned for home, Lavina and Notium drew to the front and Royal Secret soon put the issue beyond doubt, and she won easily by over a length from Notium who was a neck in front of Lavina. Bodyline finished on into fourth place. Hunting Lodge was next. Mister Quex Wins Well. Lifeguard was favourite for the Komako Hack but after being prominent to the straight he faded out of tho picture. Royal Record got much the worst of the start and when the field had settled down Lifeguard was showing the way followed by Lady Cheval, Mister Quex and Royal Minstrel. Mister Quex was in second place behind Lifeguard as they ran to the straight and Royal Minstrel, Lady Cheval and Royal Record were next in order. At the distance Mister Quex was in front and Royal Minstrel, Reipar and Royal Record were challenging. The issue was never in doubt and Mister Quex won nicely by a couple of lengths from Royal Minstrel with Reipar, just ahead of Royal Record, another length back. Grand Jury Beats Pango in Great Cup Race. The race for the Ashhurst Cup was a good one and Grand Jury scored his second victory in this event when he beat Pango into second place in an exciting finish. Orac led early from Blue Garter, Full Throttle, Round Score, Master Cyklon and Davistock, and Grand Jury was last. There was not much alteration during the next half mile but the fun started about half a mile from home. There Orac and Blue Garter were leading from Round Score, I’ango, &2»ngulne King, Full Throttle and Davistock, and Grand Jury and Master Cyklon were moving forward from the rear. There were five horses going for the lead as they raced into the home stretch and they were Orac, Round Score, Blue Garter, Pango and Jlrand Jury. At tho distance the issue was still in doubt but Grand Jury and Pango then drew out and after a sharp tussle Grand Jury drew away and won well by over a length from Pango. Master Cyklon finished on a length and a-quarter away and Davistock was fourth. Orac ana Sanguine King were next. One for Hawke’s Bay. Trimden was preferred to the Hawke’s Bay trained Mahaanui for the Novice Stakes, but Mahaanui won well and Trimden was beaten out of the money. Parakino, Trimden and Mahaanui were first to break the line and with half a mile to go Mahaanui and Parakino were setting the pace followed by Golden Enterprise, Trimden, Ruenzori and Scooter. Trimden had drifted before they reached tho straight but otherwise the leaders were the same into the home stretch. Once into line for the judge Golden Enterprise and Ruenzori challenged Mahaanui but Mahaanui held them off and won well by a length and a-half. Golden Enterprise was second, half a length in front of Ruenzori. Puroto was fourth ' followed by Scooter. Waipiro Beats Cloudy Bay and Red Sand in Blanket Finish. The public went for Calshot and . Hamarin in the Hack Cup but they i were beaten out of the money after being prominent to the straight, There i

was a great finish and Waipiro, Cloudy Bay, and the fast-finishing Red Sand, passed the judge almost in line. Silver River set the early pace ahead of Luculius Lad, —Hamarin and Calshot and after they had travelled six furlongs Silver River, Calshot and Hamarin were together just in front of Luculius Lad, Waipiro and Cloudy Bay. i Red Sand was still last. The order was the same into the straight where Waipiro on the outer and Cloudy Bay on the fence ran to the front. They were i hard pressed a furlong from home and the issue was still in doubt when Red i Sand came up with a brilliant burst of speed and Waipiro won by a head from ; Cloudy Bay with Red Sand only a neck further away. Luculius Lad was fourth and Silver River and Hamarin next. Another Win for Mister Quex. Eagle’s Eye and Mister Quex were ; in the boom for the Siberia Hack and Mister Quex won well, securing his second victory for the day. The start was a good ono and it was a furlong i before the line was definitely broken. Then Eagle’s Eye and Tycoon went to the front and Mister Quex was attending them, ahead of Golden Enterprise, Merlyn and Etiquette. Something happened to Eagle’s Eye as they ran to the straight and she stopped very quickly, leaving Tycoon to show the way into the home stretch with Mister Quex, Merlyn, Etiquette and Golden Enterprise next. In the run to the judge Mister Quex soon took control and he went on to win by over a length from Golden Enterprise, who got up to beat Tycoon by the best part of a length. Etiquette was fourth and All Spirit and Merlyn next. Brazen King Finishes Solidly. Brazen King was favourite for the concluding event and he duly landecT, his finishing run being too solid for Land Tax, who was with Lavina out in front at the distance. Orac was first to show out ahead of Land Tax but within a furlong Lavina had taken the lead and she was followed by Orac, Land Tax, and Brazen King half a mile from home. There was not much change into the straight where Land Tax tackled Lavina and they were having a desperate struggle when Brazen King ran past them. Hunting Lodge then arrived on the scene with a late run and she got to within a neck of Land Tax, who was a couple of lengths from Brazen King, at the post. Lavina was fourth and Mustang last,
