Freezing Works Conference Fails to Agree
AFTER NEARLY TWELVE HOURS DISCUSSION Per Press Association. WELLINGTON. Last Night. After nearly twelve hours' discussion of condition arising from the recent stay-in strike of the Auckland freezing workers the special conference at Parliament House to-day failed to reach an agreement. It was decided at a late hour to adjourn until the morning in order to receive a report from the special committee set up to consider the final points. Some fifty delegates representing all the employers and workers in the industry throughout New Zealand attended. The Government was represented by the Minister of Labour and the Minister of Agriculture. The conference opened at 10.30 a.m. and was continued throughout the day and evening, there being a protracted discussion on contentious, questions of labourers’ wages in freezing works and the number of operatives on the chain system.
