New Season’s Lamb
LONDON, Dec. 31. The first arrivals of Salisbury Down iambs are meeting with a good reception at Sinithfield, despite keen competition from record, quantities of beef, left over from tho Christmas market, and early pitchings of home-killed, lambs. The new season’s New Zealand lambs are making around 5s Sd to 6s per stone, a price which is by no means unsatisfactory in view of (lie heavy surplus of other meats now on the hooks. The English lambs are quoted at fis to 40s per stone, and their early appearance is the result of successful experiments with Dorset LLorn ewes for crossing in Devon and Kent with Southdown rams. The lambs are #aid to be particularly hardy, and dress out well from 251 b upwards. Incidentally, inquiries for Dorset Horn rams and ewes have recently been received from New Zealand, and Smith-
field is wondering whether all-the-year-round production is noW being contemplated in certain parts of the Dominion. Iu England, Dorset Horn lambs are dropped from the middle of November.
