WAIRARAPA PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE. Urgent representations are .to bo made to the Minister of Agriculture by the Wairarapa provincial executive of the Farmers' Union on the subject of a shortage of sodium chlorate, which is needed for the eradication of ragwort and other noxious weeds. The executive on Monday, on the motion of Mr. E, y. Heckler, that representations should be made forthwith to the Minister through the Dominion secretary (Mr. A. P. O'Shea), was decided. There was a somewhat lengthy discussion in committee regarding compulsory uuionism. The following resolution was carried: “That this meeting of the Wairarapa executive of the Farmers' Union recommends the Dominion executive to continue to press for au agreement similar to that of the dairy industry in preference to compulsory uuionism for both employers and farm workers." The following motion on the subject of rates for the cartage of fat lambs was passed: “That this meeting notes with regret that Mr. ykoglund (Transport Authority) has recently made an arrangement with local carriers, to fix a rate for the cartage of fat lambs, notwithstanding a previous statement to the farmers that no such fixed rate would be made until next May, and that the Minister’s attention be called to this fact."
