On Monday surveyors began their survey of the road to be formed to tho new beach at Himatangi. From the Himatangi store there is at present a road for some distance, but formation will be required for about two and ahalf miles in extension of the present road. As soon as possible after the survey, construction will commence in accordance with specifications of the Manawatu County Council. * The cost is being privately met.
Aged 23, Gwen Van de Kike, an American girl, who earned her way round the world, has lately returned home. She left Los Angeles two years ago with £3 in her purse and a steerage ticket to Japan. She was companion to a woman in Japan; gave English lessons to Japanese bankers; sold her clothes to Russian girls for the fare from Vladivostok to Moscow, and taught girls makeup in Finland. After leaving each country she visited she wrote articles on her impressions and sold them in the next country
