PUNCTURES GALORE

MOTORIST’S BAD JOURNEY. FATE’S MANY BLOWS. To travel the highways and the byways of the Auckland Province for 18 months and not experience a single puncture, was hardly sufficient compensation (thinks an Auckland motorist) for the blows fate dealt him recently. On his return trip from New Plymouth, says the Aucklander, he had "the time of his life.” In the Awakino district he found his switch had fused and set things alight. In the hurry to turn the car into the bank the front tyre “ballooned.” After much Ingenuity the car was got going, but coming into Hamilton there was a big bang, and one of the after lugs of the engine-frame cracked. An auxiliary hanger, however, was purchased and fitted. Nearing Ohinewai a truck was found disabled and a lift given to the driver who wanted to get to Pokeno. The latter confessed of having had ten punctures. The words had hardly been broadcast when the front tyro was down again. From Eangirirl to within a mile of Mercer no fewer than 14 punctures were accumulated. Patches had run out and patience had evaporated hours previously. The car had to go on a flat tyre until Mercer and a now tyre was found. Near Wiri a motor smash was encountered. There was hardly room for either to get through, but a steady wheel saved the situation.
