NO KISSING ON SUNDAY
In England in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, it was of penal offence for a man to kiss his wife or even his child in Sundays. ' The penalty for such an offence was anything from a fine to doing penance in the church, and even being publicly flogged. In those days it was also illegal in Scotland to walk over two miles on Sundays, unless the destination was the church.
