ANNUAL MEETING OF SCOTTISH SOCIETY. Mr. D, Buchanan presided over the annual meeting of the Manawatu Scottish Society which was held last evening, quite a good attendance of members being present. ' Annual Report. The annual report presented by the secretary, Mr. J, Walker ran as follows; ‘‘The work of the society during the past year hag been most successful. The membership of the society now totals 130, showing a substantial increase on the previous year. Our present roll consists of 80 ladies and 50 gentlemen. A series of .12 Inglesides were held from March to December, all of which were highly successful and gave the members an opportunity for social intercourse —one of the objects of the society. Your executive, in order to further advance the objects of the society, resolved to . carry on the class for Highland dancing, and the thanks of the society are due to Mr. R. Raeburn for his kindness in acting as teacher. Rev. James- Barr, M.M., of Scotland paid a lecturing visit to Palmerston North recently, and your executive had much pleasure in carrying out the lecturing arrangements, assisted by several local bodies On the occasion of the hallowe’en festival this season a wise departure was made in inviting the children from Willard Home: also the girls from Flock House. On Anniversary Day, January 23, the members and friends held a very successful picnic at Eden Park, Tiakitahuna, and the society is under a debt of gratitude to Mr and Mrs D. Buchanan for their kindness on that day. The thanks of the society, are due to the Manawatu Highland Pipe Band for their assistance and hearty co-operation during the year, and the society is greatly indebted to Mrs Alexander and the ladies’ committee who assisted so willingly at our several functions, and to whom much of the ensuing success was due. To! our artists who contributed to the programmes on our various evenings we are greatly indebted.” Election of Officers. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: —President, Mr. D. Buchanan; vice-presi-dents. Messrs D. - Alexander and J. Raleigh; hon, secretary, Mr J. Walker: hon. treasurer, Mr. J. Finnic; executive, Messrs W. Allan, R. Raeburn, J. Salmon and J Marshall; ladies’ committee, Mesdamcs Alexander, Allan. Cooksley, Forbes, Martin Messenger, Smith, Wilson and Miss B. Young: auditor Mr R. A, Fuller.
