MATRIC IN FUTURE ‘UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE’

(Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. The -Matriculation examination will in future be known as the University Entrance examination os soon as an amendment of the Statute receives the formal consent of the Government. This decision was reached to-day at a meeting of the University Council. Certain irregularities in the degree examination in contracts were discussed in committee., It was resolved that candidates who in that examination reached the lowest mark accepted be passed. As well as higher fees for University lectures, students will in future be called upon to pay higher entrance fees for degree examinations in arts and science. A new regulation provides that the examination fee for B.A. or B.Sc. shall be £1 Is. for each unit, and for M.A. and M.Sc. £3 3s. for each subject. Tho old regulations provided for a fee of £2 2s. for any section of the B.A. or B.Sc. degree and £1 Is. for the M.A. or M.Sc. examination. The new scale will operate from 1029.
