THE AWAHURI HOTEL.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir. — Could you inform me of the names of the gentlemen comprising the Licensing Bench at Feilding. I have been trying to think how they arrived at their decision that " a licensed house was not a necessity at Awaburi." The only solution I have arrived at is, ihit they do not go beyond their own fireside, consequently they do not know the want* of the district, and the sooner gentlemen having the necessary knowledge are on the Bench, the more beneficial it will be for the pnhlic. lam not a drinking man, nor do I believe m alcoholic liquors, but I believe m accommodation for man and beast where it is wanted.— l am, &c, • StOCKBUTB*. [The mcmberi of the Licencing Bench are :— Robert Ward, Psq. Chairman ; and Commissioners Lethb.idge, Pry, and Douglas, and certs^nly their names ought to be kept g-een m the memories of all, as a quartette which perpetmed a gross m;,; justice, and arrogantly ignored the wishes of a la'-ge majority m deference to a nar-row-minded clique and the nourishment of their own obstinacy. However, as we said before, the new Licensing Act will clip the clawsof siirh •gentiy: for like th? rattle-snake whose fangs h<*sbeen ex-: tracted, tbevmay hi«s (ill they are bos»rs£ but they will be powerless to hurt.— J2d. M.T.] !
