The Awa Huri Hotbl. —We understand that the resident* of Awa Hnri and Sandoh are getting up petitions to the Licensing Commissioner* at Feilding, praying them to reconsider tliair recent decision, with regard to a licensed house m the firstnamed township. The absence of a house of accommodation m such a Tery central locality is the subject of very general remark nnd condemnation from the persons most interested — travellers between Sandon, Palmerston, and Feilding. Pboloxgixq the Agony. — According to a notification from the Property Tax Com missioner the time for, sending m statements of property m conformity with the Act is further extended to the 2nd of August, Although it is not officially notified, we have reason to believe that the time between this and (hen will be occupied m the preparation of sehe-lules which will come within the pos- . sibility of comprehension — a qualiiieation of , which their predecessors certainly could not boast. ".UsrroßTtrJrA.TK" jAt-PEE3.— The Minis ter of Justice has caused instructions to be issued from hi« department to the various clerks of courts throughout the colony, ordering that returns be made of the names of any of the " Great Unpaid " whom the pressure of the times has forced through the mill, or compelled a composition with their creditors. ■ .It is, very properly, determined that the Bench, like Ctasar's wife, sliould be beyond reproach, and the step has been taken . to purge the list of all undesirable names. • • A Fearful T.ra»edt.— Since our leading article was m type, the Cable has an-' hounced the terrible ending of the Kelly tragedy. It appears that owing to the "outlaws still continuing resistance, tho police , fired the hotel, which was, burned down. The cjbarred reinain3 of Hart and Dan Kelly were found armoured. The bodies of Byrne and a platelayer were recovered. A re^ porter belonging, to the Benalla Ensign paper, two children, and the hotel keeper were slightly wounded. . Civilians were prisoners the; whole Sunday, and the platelayers were compelled by the gang to destroy tho railway. Ned Kelly has been taken )to Benalla.
