SMALL FARMS SETTLEMENTS.
It is a matter of no small gratification, to us to find that one of the measures that we have persistently advocated is. likely to be conceded by the Government, ■■■.• Ih article after article we have advocated the policy of provision being made m our Statute Book, forthe acquisition of Small Farms Settlement blocks, .on the principle of deferred payments. We areglad, therefore, to learri Tf^om oiir. Wellington exchanges that a deputation, of which Mr. Yesey Stewart and jVlr; James Whisker formed part, waited upon the Minister of Lands last week, to urge upon the Government the setting aside a block of land for the Workingmeh's Small Farm Association, and that lifter hearing tlie arguments adduced, the Ministery informed the deputation that a Bill was being prepared, which would make provision for the acquisition of blocks of land by Small Farms Association on tlie Deferred Payment system, but that under present circumstances he niust decline to pledge. the Government in* respect of any block. This is a step m the right direction, and we feel sure that the announcement will be widely welcomed throushout the colony.
