MR. HALCOMBE AT STONY CREEK.

[-Fbom: a COBBESPONDENT.*] Mr. Halcombe addressed the electors of Stony Creek .on Wednesday evening, Mr. Robert Linton, of Earere, occupying the Chair. It was not 'made clear to those present, why a gentlemen who was almost unknown to those present, , should have been imported for the purpose of presiding, but I presume that as Mr. Halcombe knew he was visiting a community which was not very favorable to hup, he determined to make sure of a Chairman. As Mr. Halcoiiibe was also doubtful of an audience, he displayed a similar fortbought -with regard to that matter arid the "visitors", outnumbered the residents by four to one. There were just seven electors . of Stoney Creek present, consisting of Messrs. Colin McKenzie, Cummings, Knott, Walton, Hagerty, Kayanagh, and Byers. After Mr. Halcombe had held forth for some time, he came to a conclusion and waited for the applause, waited, but waited iri vain^ but he received a left handed compliment from Mr. McColl, which evidently was not good for his digestion. ."When •'he*'had j-ecoveredj he Walked over to Mr., Cummings and asked him to propose a vote of confidence. When that offtce'had bpen performed by Mr. Cummin^s, a hitch arose for a seconder, Mr. Knott was applied to, but Mr. Kpott was "not "on, and declined the honor, when Mr. Colin McKenzie cama to the rescue and the question was put to the meeting. Of course the motion was carried, as the room was packed, but there were seven ratejpayers fr-seg^ -±mi I |}o".diy .fete yhftti^he

only two wh?*. supported the motion wen the mover apd seconder. Why Mr. Halcombe should think it necessary to keep a travelling Chairman when he goes electioneering is best known to himself, and should speak volumes, but he can rest assured it will not go m J' is favor, as we have brains as well as sinews amongst the Stoney Creek Settlers.
