THE FEILDING CHRONICEL AND ADVERTISER. SATURDAY, AUGUST 9, 1879. LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.
;Busnriß«.— - We have seldom known the town -ibip to present, a busier appearance tb»n it diii yesterday.. Settlers from all parlr WWI preient;, fitter attending Messrs. QteJ
yen] and Gorton's sale of stock or doing a b^of courting m bur. Temple of Justice. ; Stock Sam.— Messrs. Stevens and Gorton's| monthly sale of stock yesterday wai highly successful.. The attendance was large and the bidding spirited throughout. The following Vri<*««i mar be quoted: — Fat bullocks, £8 16i. ; dairy cows, £7 to £13 10s. ; yearling*, £2 15s. to £4; cows, £5 to £7; sheep, 2s. 6d. ; horses, £5 to £20 ; pigs, ; 13b. to £2(J. About 100 head of Btock and 200 sheep were disposed of. Thb Howling Nuisance. — The uselesss cur nuisance to which we drew attention m a previous issue, we find is not a bit abated. In the Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday, the owner of one of these worthlessbrutes was mulcted m £10 and costs, for injury done to a valuable horse through the yelping 'bur setting upon him and causing him to gallop off and getting staked m the frog. We trust that this will prove a warning i;o those m our own neighborhood who have a penchant for mongrels which are neither useful nor ornamental. " " Thb Thebd Time Goes."— No little excitement was occasioned m the vicinity of Ferguson street on Thursday by the attempts to raise into perpendicular Mr. Gosling's premises, which succumbed to the fury of the blast about ''a fortnight ago, and has. since inelegantly reclined against Mr. Maynnor'B auction storeY By means of a winch and- chain at the rear, and block and tackling m front, the building waß nearly raised into an upright position, when the chain gave way and the building fell into ' its old position. A second at tempt was equally unsuccessful, for ju»t before the true vertical was obtained, the upper etuds parted from the >op wall-plate, and again the building settled down into its undignified position. A third attempt, however, was successful, and stays wena immediately attached to keep it m the perpendicular. These will eventually give place to a lean-to on one side and a gallery connecting with the Maysmor Hall on the other, by which means, it is hoped, the premises will be induced to maintain a state of stable equilibrium, ■ ;■_.
