Another subject for congratulation is the completion of the Parsonage, which is now m occupation. The original cost of the Parsonagfc.was fixed at £250, but at a parish meeting held on Sunday, Noviember 2*th, TLB7B, it was resolved— " That the former resolution with respect to the ex^ penditure of £250 on the erection of the Parsonage be rescinded, and the Vestry be empowered to expend a sum not exceeding £450." That sum, however, has been exceeded by spme £30, expended m outbuildings, &c, making the total cost £480. There is still a balance of £80 due on the Parsonage, thp contractors having received a bill at four months, due on the Ist November, kindly given by Mr. Halcombe. To meet this liability there are available subscriptions promised, to the amount of £35, still uncollected, and a sum of £50 from Mrs. Hadfield, the proceeds of a bazaar held m Wellington. Thus it will be seen that these amounts being collected, the Parsonage stands free of debt, with an exception hereinafter mentioned. Plans of a church have been prepared by Mr. Clere and approved of by your Vestry ; any further stops with regard te the Church building will rest with the incoming Vo3try. Church members may be reminded that the Corporation have given a site for the church m Camden street, thus setting free the original and valuable site m Manchester street, to be dealt with a9 may be considered most advisable, This latter site is worth "at least £600, and may bo expected to realise that amount so soon as the present commercial depression ceases to exist, thrs providing an important nucleus towards the Church Building Fund. ' The Vestry, are sorry to report that the offertories thiis year, witk the largelyincreased congregation, only exceeds last year's offertories by some £2, and beg to express a hope that next year's balancesheet will show an improvement m this respect. . Among the items of receipt is a sum of £21 55., the proceeds of Mrs. Halcombe's Art Union, for which the Vestry tendpr their hearty thanks ; and it will also be seen that the sum of J63 15s. has been received as interest from the Bank on Church funds deposited. The Vestry also wish to express their gratitude to the ladies who have so kindly officiated at the harmonium and to the members of the choir. The financial position, as shown by the balance-sheet, is briefly this — that there is a small debit balance of £9 ss. lOd. outstanding, the promissory note given for the balance of Parsonage contract being considered covered, as already related. A refund of the cost of some further improvements and fixtures m the Parsonage, amounting to £30, has also been promised to the Ecv t Mr. Jones so soon as the Vestry will warrant such expenditure. Though not shown on the balance-sheet, a liability of £75, one quarter's stipend to the Key. Mr. Jones, will fall due on the 31st"of the present month. There are no fu,ads whatever m hand to meet this call and, it will be necessary for the incoming Vestry to $ake immediate steps to collect the amount from Church members. The results of the scheme for the Diocesan Fund ore not yet known, and m any case the spheme t if successful, cannot come into operation before October, so that it will be imperative to meet- our liability m the above respect by local subscriptions, to the appeal |for which the Vestry hope a liberal and prompt response will be made. Htt«*h L. Sherwill, Parish Churchwarden. ! ' Feilding, 30th June, 1879.
