ARREST OF NED KELLY.
To Constable Gillespie must b« given the credit of having accomplished single-handed what has occupied the whole police force of Victoria and New South Wales for months m. a vain attempt. — the capture of Ned Kelly. Late on Monday night as the constable was going his rounds he discovered a bibulous stranger taking hi 3 rest m the gutter, who m the absence of "his martial cloak," had pulled a clou.d over him for a blanket. With some help the sleeper was conveyed to a. dungeon dark, where to the surprise of the constable be proved to be no other than the bearer of tli e name which has become such a terror throughout the colonies —."Ned Kelly." As might have been expected the prize- was quickly placed under bolts and bars, and the information conveyed to the editor of this paper, who yesterday morning appeared iii Court with a ream of foolscap m order to give a minute account ot the look, action, and movements of the desperado. Judge of his disgust, however, when a particularly gawky individual shuffled into Court, and while claiming the cognomen, m response to Mr. McNeil's interrogatory as to whether he admitted heing drunk and disorderly, replied " Sure and be dad, your Lordship, I was just a bit hearty." Whether the judicious but somewhat saponacious courae pursned softened the heart of the Justice it is hard to say, bat Ned Eelly was again let loose, upon society on payment of a ransom of five shillings. .
