DANGEROUS ACCIDENT.

Two men, named Lauris Gulbransen and Hans Petepsen, had tj. narrow escape from fatal injury while wording m the County gravel pit"-, Terrace End, yesterday afternoon. Immediately upon resuming work after dinner., while the men yrere employed with others m the pit filling the trucks, the top portion of. the face suddenly gave way, partially burying the two men beneath it. The unfortunate fellow, G-ulbransen, was working with his hack to the vrall oi the pit, bo that when the fall took place it struck him from behiud, dashing him violently forward against the ballast- engine, with which. M* forehead came. in.tq collision making a frightful gash m his head' With commendable forethought the driver of the engine immediately put on steam and hurried up to the station for medical assistance, returning with Poctors Aket* 'Wd \Maer lachlan. The man Peterson was found to be but little injured, bub Oulbransen when extricated w almost unconscious, - and required a strong stimulant to, keep him from ,; fainting. His .head was jammed against the tx'uck, and his body forced into the shape of a letter S- He was immediately placed m the train, and conveyed to his' residence on the Foxton road, where Dr. J^kevs sewed up the wound and bandaged his head. When he -wa9 thrown against the waggon the blood shot out m a most Burpr.is.ing manner, and to all appearance the brains were protruding through the skull. The poor fellow bore his injuries and the subsequent dressing m brave style, ' and strange to say before a few bruises he did not receive any injuries on the body. The greatest praise is due to both Dr. Akers and Maclachlan for the promptitude and attention which they bestowed Upon the sufferer before leaving him promising to visit him this morning and minister, to his wants.
