Will you kindly inform him that the election will be epsfell m order, and according to law. ' w A- A, Bbowhu, See."
The following is the letter enclosed : — " Palmerston North, " February 21, 1879. s" To the Secretary of the Education Board. " Sir, — I beg to call your attention to the first sub-section of the 13th Section of the ygducation Act, 1877, and to inform yon t|iat the Committee of this School District Has not yet received the names of the persons nominated for the Board. As the time for sending m the second list expires m" One week, I must ask you to send m the listyat once. X " I have the honor, _c, r£? a 7 , . r " Eliot Warburton, "A member of the Palmerston North School Committee." Mr. Coleman took exception to the 2v^tu»g'ef such a letter by a member, as the document had an official aspect for which 'no authority had ever been given. Mr* Warburton ; stated that the letter had been written m his private capacity, jind he considered he was fully warranted nn the step he had taken. ! - ; The, Chairman intimated that had that course been pursued, it' would have been perfectly justifiable, but he failed to see hoiiv such a face could be put upon a document which was not signed " Eliot Warburton, solicitor," but "Eliot Warburton, a member of the Palmsrston North School Committee." He considered such a letter should never have been written without his knowledge, such action being a reflection upon the Committee, but more particularly ujDon himself as Chairman. • For his part he should refuse to be satisfied until the i Committee put a repudiation upon record, | of the action taken. A long and very ' sharp discussion theu ensued, Mir. Warburton seeking to justify his action, but ...Mr. Coleman proposed, and Mr. Hayns • seconded — "That this Committee wish to have it recorded that the letter to the Secretary of the Wanganui Education Board, written by Mr. Eliot Warburton, and signed as a member of the Palmerston North School Committee, was written without their consent or knowledge." This was earned unanimously, and the Committee adjourned until the second Thursday m April.
