UNDER THE MICROSCOPE.
[By Magoffin.]
" A chiel's amang ye takin' notes, An' faith he'll prent 'em."
"The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak indeed." Macginnis was outside (mind you out, not inside) the Foresters' Hall a few evenings since, on which occasion the votaries of Terpsichore were tripping the " light fantastic." As the inspiring music of Weber's last waltz— elicited from a phthisical accordion m the bands of an accomplished Teuton— floated on the night air, a female approached, and after listening for some time to the inviting si rains, inquired of mv friend Mac , m the broadest of Scotch, "What wa« going on within?" Mac. replied that it was a ball, and with characteristic and national gahantrv, offered to introduce the lair inquirer. " A what. ?" said she. "A lion," rei'erated Mac, and proceeded to give some saltatory evolutions suitable to the occasion, ending with n.ropeti'ion of the invitation. By this time the lady was evidently enlightened, but declined the invitation, remarking as she unwillingly quitted the scene. " Weel, weel. the music's vera tiica; but I mauna join m sic deevilrv ; hut losh, the music's vera nu-e ; vera eutii-irt' indeed."
