FEILDING ANNUAL S PORTS.

A meeting of the Feildtng Sporti Committee was held at Roe's Denbigh Hotel,, on Saturday night last, for the purpose af receiving the balance- sheet ot the past yeaj, j and the' election of office-bearers for the cotntog one. Dr Johnston, the Chairman of the committee, presided. From th« statements laid before the meeting it ap- j peared that after defraying all expenses m ! connection with tlie liberal programme of last year, there still remained to the good a balance of £T 2s Td. It was determined to put forth a supreme effort to make the coining sports a grand success, and with this riew to offer such prizes a* would induce competitors to enter from Wanganui, Waimrapa and Wellington, it being concluded to set apart between £200 and £300 for prize*. A subscription list was opened m the room, and although the meeting w«» by no moan* a foil one, na less than £60 were subscribed m a few minutes. Mr Hoc tot Booth baring expressed a wish to be reliered of the secretaryship, Mr Sherwill was elected to the poiition ; and at the- request of the meeting Dr. Johnston consented to retain the chairut&nihip of the committee. The following gentlemen were then appointed a sub-committee of management to draw tip the programme for the pxisev, and make all necessary arrangeioenta : — Treasure?: J. Callamsn : Secretary t H. Sherwill j Judges :Dr Johmton and Messrs. Halcowbe, Macarthur, Drummond, and Bray. It was decided that the Committee | hold tte first meeting this evening, at «ight o'clock.
