PUBLIC HALL, FEILDING.
i A preliminary meeting with regard to the erection of a Public Hnll at Feilding was : held m the office Mr Rvc*ot Booth, m thaO ; township, on Thursday evening. Dp. Johns'to«> was. called to the chair, and there was a goodly number of, the most influential . residents present. la opening the meeting, tbe CHAIRMAN, after dwelling at some length upon tire necessity of the- town possessing a building such as that contemplated, suggeated that it should cost about £1500, having 84 age and side rooms, beside offices m front, which could be let, and the rental, m additio« to that received from the hire of the Hal] would go a tong- way m paying t&e interest of the money expended ux erection. There was bo dk>ubt that a ktrge proportion of the suna required would be- raised b? B:}»arG* r ami the remainder borrowed; at a low rate af iaterest. The question of the value of lihe shares wooki be- the first consideration, and he thought that £t\ shares would be best, as fixing them at that lqw frgare- woald place- them within the reach of the great mass of the public* and giv.e nil an opportunity of baring ar» irrferest m the undertaking. The next question to be decided was > ad to the best basis upon which to form, the company — -having thft building nested m trtwtee*, c# a tim&ed liability company, with dtFectors> as- a commibtee of management, chosen annually. In his own- opinion. the former would; be the more advisable, &» being tho least expensive. He thought if the matte*- were proceeded withy it would be raucb better- to have the bailding- finished right out, wiih side rooms, stag*, &c. aH completed!. M r At Axsiioa coaudered; jEJIdOO too. targe a sum,, particularly as tlte ground h&& been &o generously given gratuiboaaliy, and wt« of opinion that a very spaciou* building could be erected; far £1000 i Mr HAUDOMas agreed with Mr Maysmor aft to the sum named by the Chairman being excessive) and thought a very e»---eeTlcn-t Hall could be raised for £1000. On. the pact of the Corporation' he was prepared to- give the necessary land on the Kirn bolt on rood, neap the Immigration Barracks, merely upon the condition that a building of a certain value be erected, and it was. not necessary it should exceed the sum suggested- by Mr May,smo*. He also, agreed with the wisdom of fixing the price of share* at £1, as not only would a greater number be thus taken up> but by having the mass of th* peopl* interested m it, it would cause the building to be a Public Hall m- fact,. a» well as name. After some further preliminary dis* cusuon, the following resolutions were carried unanimously j— » " That tlve capital of the Company be £1000 m 1000 share* af £1 each." " That the capital be raised as follows : — Ten shillings per share upoo application, and the ballan.ee m three mouths after allotment." " That skete-K plans, specifications, end estimates be prepared, m order to submit to ; a public meeting." " That the Chairman be requested to. ascertain fehe names of the persons, willing to take up &haf««.'* It was then arranged that a meeting should be held at the schoolroom, Feilding, on Saturday, the 23 rd instant, at eight p.m., for the purpose of placing the proposals before the public, acquainting tliam with tbe result of the canvass, and soliciting their co-operation.
