THE COUNTY COUNCIL ELECTION.

TO. THE EDITOE. SlB, — In your last. issue you mention the probability of Messrs Halcombe and Sherwill being returned to the Council to represent the Manchester Riding. It is a pity to see the whole controlling influence of the two Ridings of Manchester and .Kiwitea placed so completely m one gentleman's hands, however good he may be, as it would be to return Mr Sherwill as Mr Halcombe's second Mr Macarthur as the the rej^H^ative of Kiwitea is his third ■elf. flrere can be nothing said personally m opposition to either of those gentlemen being returned to represent the Manchester Riding, providing that some other interest beside Corporation interest should have a voice m the Council. As for the Kiwitea seat, the electors of Kiwitea may be safely left alone to manage their own affairs, and as Mr Macarthur haß so ably looked after their interests during his term of office, they will no doubt return him unopposed on Monday next j but either Mr Halcombe should give place to Mr Sherwill 01 else Mr Sherwill should stand on one side and allow the outside public to return another candidate who would be free from Corporation influence, and could act m the Council a3 Mr Halcombe's equal or the equal of any other councillor, and Mr Sherwill cannot pretend to that position. — I am, &c., An Electox.
