THE EDUCATION ACT.
TO THE EDITOR. . Sir, — The resignation of Mr Bryce as a member for tho Wanganui Board lias made it necessary for 273 com-mittee-men to leave their homes twice m order to elect another member. Is it the intention of our law-makers to make the people sick and tired of local selfgovernment m this maf tor, or why has no provision been made for electing substitutes at the saiue time when the Board was elected? The Act might
also be improved by lliS intrmluetioii of proportional representation, m which ease the present varam-y would have been filled by referring the matter to the committees who were represented by Mr Bryce, instead of the 39 committees of the district. — I am, &c, V. Mohhad.
