UNFOUNDED STATEMENTS.
TO THE EDITOfi. Sib,— My attention has been drawn to a report m your paper of a meeting held at WoodvtUe, at which. Mr Macarthur seema to hare taken an exceedingly active part. However much he may have been interested m attaining hia object,|he. had'no right to say what is absolutely 'untrue— that jri my purchase from the Manchester Corporation at the Manawatu Gorge I acted as " agent for a party of Wellinglon sptculators." He also s-.iys that I intend to form a township on the land ; m this' he seems to know my intentions belter than I do myself, as I certainly never said bo to anyone. I cannot tell what he means by his last statement that "a gross swindle is being perpetrated." If he 'means to say that the settlers are swindling anyone by endeavouring to get a road to their properties, the statement is too absurd to be worth answering., I will conclude by hoping that m future Mr Macarthur will take care to ascertain the truth, of any statementi he may feel inclined to make respecting his neighbours before giving utterance to them.— lam, &c., Al-BX.
