THE FEILDING CHORAL SOCIETY.
TO THE EDITOB. Sib,— For about twelve months there has been a Choral Society m Feilding, eonßisting, or supposed to consist, of a oommitlee of management, ordinary members who pay a yearly eubecripiion, and working members. The ConmiiUe meet, we Puppoee, when necessarj, but we hear nol hing of their doings. . In most pocief ies of the sorb that I have heard of, the members have some privilege for theic money; hi" some cases two free tickets to the cpiWert, m others Wotio'kots
for the price of one, y«t there is nothing of the sort here that I can learn. I ara a member myself, and I know no more of the affair than one of the outside public. How can the Committee expect the thing to prosper while they keep everything and everybody m the dark m this manner P I beg to suggest that a general meeting of members be held nt an early date to receive a report of the Committee, and to consider the subject of privilege. .Another thing. Is Feilding so badly off for tenors that the conductor is obliged to take all the tenor solos upon himself ? That, to- say the least, looks bad for, Feilding. Again, is it the correct thing for the conductor of a oo'ncert to bawl— l can call it nothing else?— the soprano throughout all the ohorusses? It looks as though the ladies were not to be trusted, and it terribly mars the effect of the singing. < I write this beoause I hare- been spoken to about the above subjects by several interested persons, and. l think something might be done m the ws\y of refornvby ventilating the subject through your valuable columns. Apologising for enoroaching so much on yourspace^anV&c, . ■ ' i. - A Mbmbeb. Feilding, July 15th, 1878.
