Tuesday. An address to electors is published on behalf of Eliot Barton by his son* announcing his father will contest seat for Wellington Oity against Pearcein interest of Sir George Grey. On return of Sir George Grey from Waikato* he -will be asked to address- a public meeting at Wellington. The City of Sydney left San Fran-% oisco for Auckland on January 21st (contrabt date) with : London* January mail for New Zealand and Australia ; arrived &t SAn Francisco 2&th Jan-* nary (?) two days before contract date v with JN\Zh mails for London. Toiniujht's "Post" says it has been arranged that the Hon. Mr Larnach will shortly proceed to England as one of the agents appointed to raise the new- loan. Before leaving, Larnachwill retire from the Cabinet and resign his seat m the Assembly. The negotiations connected with raising the loan will be entrusted 1 to Julyan andSargeant, the Agent-General, and Larnach, as directly representing the colonyv It is probable that Larnach on re* signing his, seat m the Assembly will be called, to, the Upper House.
