MANCHESTER HIGHWAYS BOARD.
A meeting of the Board was held at the E. and C. Aid Corporation Office, Feilding, on Saturday, the sth January, 1878. PRESENT. Messrs Macarthur, Linton, Bailey, Bartholomew and A. F. Halcombe (Chairman), Mr Macarthur being m the chair previous to Mr Halcombe's arrival. minutes. The Minutes of the previous ordinary meeting, and, also of the previous special meeting were read and confirmed. TENDER-. The following tenders were received : — ■ For metalling and trimming about 20 chains of Denbigh and Prince Street ; Mr R. Bower, £3 10s per chain (accepted). For forming and metalling about 26^ chains and building culverts m Queen street: Mr R. Bowler, £25 for the sundry works, and £3 10s per chain for the metalling (accepted) ; Mr Hector Booth £20 for the sundry works, and £4 per chain for the metalling (declined); also, from Messrs Harvey and McGoll, £30 6s for the sundry works, and £3 5s per chain for the metalling-, (declined). For metalling about 18 chains of Warwick Street: Messrs Harvey & McColl, £3 10s per chain" (accepted) ; MrßLßowler£3 15s per chain, Mr W. Smithaoni£3 19s, and Mr H. Booth £3 12s (defined); For felling and clearing 59 chains of No. 3 line, Makino Road: Mr Edward Gichard, £1 5s per chain (accepted) ; Mr Isaac Grice, £1 6s per chain (declined).; For felling and cltaring 60 chains 'on ||Bunnythorpe Road: Mr Stephen Wjlsh, 18s 5d per chain (accepted). A For making side-.cutting,
building culverts, filling guliys, and fencing on the Rangatawa Road : Mr John Grower, £134 18s (accepted, conditionally on the work not being commenced until the Board has obtained a title to the land) ; Mr Jacob Leinweber, £180 (declined). For bush-falling and clearing, and building bridges on Taonui Road: Mr William Gichard, £98 (declined as excessive). For building bridge near Mr Corkey's residence: Mr W. Gichard £22; (declined as excessive). Messrs Pope and Lawton's petition for a road to their sections, having been taken into consideration, it was resolved, " That the Board, having obtained a report from the Engineer, of the cost, of the proposed work, is unable to comply with the prayerof tha petitionat present Resolved that tenders be called for felling and clearing 60 chains of Nansted's Road. Accounts Passed Messrs Smithson and Johnston, £97 I7s 6d ; Peter Carreen, £6 3s ; J. W. Baokmore , £7 10; 2 copies Act 9s. Resolved that the Board meet on Tuesday 15th January 1878.
