THE REGATTA.

The Foxton annual Regatta & Sports were held on Friday, the 4th inst, under very favourable circumstances, the* weather beingall that could be desired ; the *wind, which was blowing from the norlh-west,.not being too strong for the pulling race, but stroag enough to try^ the sailing qualities of the hoats. . Th* course chosen hy the- committee was.from the wharf up the- river and round a baby moored opposite Mr- X T, ' Stewart's, and down and round a buoy i moored m. a line with^^^the^^_^r_>_n- ■ can's house, up to a boat opposite the wharf. By having this course it enabled all the lookers-on to see the whole? way. round. After the Regatta was; orer* all wended their steps: to, a large padI dock m, rear of Mr A. J. Whyte's hotel. The paddock belongs to Mr' Whyte*. and was kindly' lent by._im.fprt|i(e-oc» casion. Everj^hiing^ both at the Rej gatta and Sports^.weikt off well, and I during the day there was not a single ; case of either drunkenness or misbehaviour of any kind. I do»not think i the attendance was so large as last jrouv ' neither were there " sa roany visitors, from the other townships. Palmerston was well represented*, but from Ffeilding there were but few j and considering that m a great measure the Regatta andi Sports here were put off so as. ia no> way to clash with their sports,.
