The Turks inflicted heavy loss on the Russians on the Lorn and the Jantra. The Russians have captured G-tropal. Andrasso says the moment for mediation has not yet arrived. The Russian press contains the following conditions of peace :— The cession of part of the Turkish fleet. Russian and Turkish joint occupation of the Dardanelles, and the exclusion of all other nations. The Roumanian army are besieging Widden. At the trial of the turf swindlers Clarke, the detective, was acquitted. The French ministry resigned* after six unsuccessful attempts to forma ministry. A moderate conservative Government has been formed, upon which the Legislative Chamber passed resolutions refusing to enter into relations with it. Macmahon resolved upon a policy of determined resistance to the Chamber. Special London undated : — Ears has fallen. The Turkish killed and wounded are 500. 10,000 prisoners, 300 cannon, flags, and immense stores have been taken. MelikofE directed the assault. The Grand Duke was .present. The Russian attacking forces were 15,000. Plevna is entirely invested and expected hourly to fall. The Russians are advancing Westward to cut off from Sophia. The Turks under Mehemet are mustering at Sophia. Great excitement prevails at Stamboul. Outbreaks of popular anger are feared. Makhad is ordered to defend his position to the last. The Montinegrins have cap.tured.the fort at "Prankavasa and a large quantity of stores . The Russians sustained a reverse at Shipka Pass. The French Ministry have resigned.— New Zealand hemp is firmly held.— The fall of Ears created great enthusiasm among Russian troops m Bulgaria. Salvoes of artillery were fired round Plevna. Ata Council of War at Ears after its fall General PhillippofE advocated to march the army westward to Sentaire. It is
stated that Osman Pasha is willing to surrender to the Russians: Provisions^ at Plevna are abundant. . *'
