PALMERSTON FIRE BRIGADE.

' A meeting .of persons interested m the formation of afire brigade for the Borough of Palmerston North was held m the Foresters' Halloa Friday evening last, f '.. .<; ■ ' . . : ,:,.■■■; '■; Mr J. N. Owen was voted K ; -to the chair, and opened the meeting by explaining, the object fqr- which it had been conTened.. He urged upon all. present the necessity for taking active steps m organizing a fire brigade for the Borough. . <■•■;.> • - . ' Capt. Robinson, of the Fire Brigade, addressed; the meeting* and his long experince m ilie • matt|rsi connected with fire brigades gave great weight to the information he furnisted. meeting was then, addressed.by Mr P. E. Warburton and Mr Ooleman, when the following . resolution was carried:-— . . . , v "That a Fire, Brigade be at once formed for the Borough of Palmersten .North,", ..,.., .;./ : ■;';; ...;-. ..; ; Gentlemen desirous of becoming members were then requested to give m their names, which, request was most readily responded to by no less than twenty of those present either as honorary or active, members. ; 'It was also' resplyed to apply to the • Corporation for a-grant m. aid towards securing a good supply of water m diMirent parts of the Borough. . A vote of, thanlcs to the Chairimatt closed the proceedings of this meeting. Thejmembers then formed themselves into a Committee, with Mr J.-K. 'Owen as chairman and Mr T. R. Walton as Secretary protein. , It was then. resolved [ . that .Messrs. : Snelson and Warburtan beyappouited a deputation to wait upon the ■■: several Insurance Companies m Wellington to solicit tKeir assistance m equipping and supporting the, brigade. Resolved, that the next meeting, of members be held m the Foresters' Hall on Friday, the lßth jDecember, atß;p.tn. Business— rElectipn .of ! officers and formation of a committee to canvass the -Borough, for subscriptions towards Jte plant, &c, of the brigade; ■ ;^
