Mcßonald,^ Gpwer, Sanson , McNeil, McArthur, Snels6£, London, and Thynne (chairman) •; The Chaibman said that the present meeting was called under clause 64 of the {Counties', i^ct, which said- 1^" The Council shall at its first meeting, and thereafter at the annual Tneetirig to be held on the fourth Wedhesday m November m; every succeeding year^ elect one of its members to be chairman of the Counl^-^|E[e would suggest that the candidates be proposed and seconded m the usual manner. He would ask for the same assistance to be given to whoever 'might fill the office for the ensuing term; Cr. Sanson said he would propose the following resolution— "That E. ; Sf. Cr. Gower said, m seconding Councillor JSanson's resolution, he quite endorsed what, had been said, and believed that the chairman had done all m his power, for the Council, and he thought that all the Councillors would agree with him m this. Cr. McAbthub said he would like to t ask the Chairman one or two questions before the resolution was put. Would he, if elected, pledge himself to do all m his power to obtain another member for the Manchester Riding ? The Chaibman said he would not like to pledge himself to. any one course' or other. The question he had been asked was rather an awkward one, as itwas m contemplation to re-adjust the boun-v daries of the Hidings, and if pledged, a? requested by Cr. McArthur, it might interfere m the anticipated alterations. Cr. McArthub] Would you agree to let each Riding hate its own revenueand subsidy spent m it, after deducting a fair proportion for the working expenses of the Council?
