On Wednesday i evening last the lianawatu Dramatic Club .gave their third per-' formance m the Foresters' Hall, Palmerston, to a Very ■ good -house.'.- There, were two pieces brought out, the " Loan of a Lover," and " Little Toddlekins."* The impersonations.throughout were good. In the " Loan of a Lover," the characters of Peter Spyk and Swyzel were, for amateurs, the most difficult ; yetr the loutish drollery of the one and the fussy eccentricity of the other were well pourtrayed. Gtertrude and Ernestme were vfche two rival heroines, and' right bravely 1 did they sustain the role. The piece was: thoroughly enjoyed} and every character, from Captain: AmeiraforV upon the loan of m horn the plot hinges, down to the subordinate Delre. retired with honours. The' seasoning of song that pervaded this piece, added greatly to the zest of enjoyment. The ; second piece would certainly : meet the approval of the physiologist who maintained kugbing.tp be a healthful exer-. eise ; for laugh' the audience 'did at the comicalities of the feudal war : waged ; be : "' tween Mr Brownsmith and .Captain Little- " pop, arid the /droll scrapes and dilemmas encountered: by the former m his quest, of conn übiar bliss. These arose chiefly from the existence of a daughter named Aman- , this, who possessed the . pet sobriquet of "Little Toddlekins.": §he was to her papa a perfect whitfc elep'lKfM; since she stood" and persisted to stand between him" and eyeryjady to whom he desired to make soft overtures. Mr. Bariiaby Babieombe iwith j liis chapter, of miseries, together with his . daughter Annies < welded . happily into the plot and the ;fun. VSusan was jusfc ag' p er t arid knowing as a maid of modern 'days should be. These made; up,the characters which were one and all effectively imper--sdriated. -The" club is" to be congratulated on the talent itl has . dispiayed^a talent not often met with among amateurs. The stage,; -management appeared ltd' be perfect, and the scenery m every .way ■ creditable to the ' artist., ■;.... ..;.-.. . ■ -"..;-: It will be seen by announcement m ' another column that the Rose Brothers are ' going to entertain the Paimerston public on r Wedriesday and Thursday; evenings m the Foresters Hallv , We . have ribticed, throughi s the, Press reports, ,the, v progress of r 'this r talented troupe through ithe: colony, and; everywhere they: have been criticised; m terms' of high praise, and haver gathered around them \^large wonder..- struck audiences.- ■ The Cabinet Seance involves a mystery which seems to place the Davenports completely, m the shade, and to rival the mediumißtic wonders of 'the "New Be-/ ligion;" Besides illusionary there is m. ; , the entertainment much to amuse and please. Violet Rose, the songstress, is to; play an important part, and we venture.to predict that if her vocalisation* is* but half so pretty as her name she/jnltbe apprebiated.
