TO THE EDITOE. Sib, — I must as one of the Managing Committee of the late concert at Feilding,'take exception to some of yourremai'ks m your issue of the 27th June, upon the comic songs sung thereat. Your informant must have misled you ere you could have penned the reproof to the managing committee above referred to. We all know the adage — " That to the pure all things are pure," and the converse "that to the impure all things are impure "—seems to hold good m this case, to induce anyone to represent to you that the character of the comic songs was such as you describe. ' Extremes meet, and there is an extreme of pseudo-ultra refinement whicl , by suggesting the idea of coarseness, really' creates it, where it would not otherwise have been imagined. Several of the managing committee had their own wives and daughters at the concert without feeling any reason to be shocked on. their behalf at.what seems to have been obvious to the more acute and practised sensibilities of your reporter, , arid I would suggest to you that the habit. of crying.
