It is proposed to relieve Mr Passmore from his duties as Superintending 1 Engineer , of constructed railways of the North. Island, Higginson. combining this with the -appointment now . held by Euorpp who takes Higginson s s present duties m ihe Middle Island. Conyers retains his appointment, but his head quarters will be Christchurch, - until probably railway is completed to Dunedin. The Government steamer Stella returned, to-day from . the Chatham's. She left on Sunday at 4 p.m.- - She brings the Resident Magistrate Deighton, and others as witnesses m the case' of perjury against -the mate and' appren- . tices of the Ocean Mail. The Stella did not visit the scene of wreck. ' " There is no chance of saving any more cargo, as the wreck has almost entirely disappeared. About £6tiaVorth. of tallow, dry wool, sails, &c.y*have been recovered. * The schooner, Island Lilly, with a cargo of wool and tallow, sails for Lytteltbn m about a week. ' The Schooner Cleopatra, toof timber to the Chatham's for sheds for drying and storing the" wool on' the beach, but for some unknown reason- she left for Lyttelton without discharging the timber. Edwards, of Kaiwara Hotel, and two others whose licenses were refused at the regular Licensing Court, had their licenses granted m each case to-day .»
