; - , Friday. • Yesterday a "widow named Quarrie, residing at Oamaru, died suddenly. After her death the oldest son, Daniel, disappeared, and wasnot heard of till « this morning, when he gave himself up to the police at Waimate. A post mortem was held on the body, and a, jury summoned for the inquest, when the police applied for a remand till Monday, on the ground that' the son Daniel, said Jb!e had been the cause of his mother's* 'death:' The doctor who made the post mortem examination said deceased'had died from a fractured skull. Inquest is adjourned till Monday.' Meantime Daniel Quarrie will be brought down frpm'Waimate. The affair has created a painful sensation, as the f Quarries have been residents here many years, -and always highly respected.' For some .years Mrs Quarrie had been addicted to drinking," and 'when m that staiie frequentlyirritatedhersonJDaniel/whb'was always a quick tempered boy. When he saw his mother m drink it annoyed him very much. He is only abdfft'2o years old, and has been engaged for years with Lane, butcher.
