An extensive factory is being erected m Hungary for preserving meat m tins by the action of intense cold. It is tinned m a frozen state, and comes out m better condition than that which is cooked. Over the tiny grave of the only body — that of an infant — washed ashore at. Lydd, near Dungeness, from the illfated emigrant ship Northfleet, has been placed a slab with the simple inscription, " God knows," that having been the touching reply of the parish constable when he was appealed to by the undertaker as to what name should be engraved on the cofEn plate. A Hint for the Fair Sex.— The " New York Times " says : — Penguin eggs are not savoury, being mixed wiln more sulphuretted hydrogen than an epicure needs.
